Aaron Wolfe 2016 Scholarship Winner

Aaron Wolfe

Hometown: Centre Hall, PA

School: Pennsylvania State University

Major / Species: Animal Science with a Minor in Agribusiness Management, Agronomy

Career Goals: After graduating the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Animal Sciences, I would like to work in the swine industry. I have always loved working with pigs and plan on working with them for the rest of my life.  I would enjoy working in a large sow facility, primarily in the farrowing unit, processing piglets. That has been my dream job since I started college. I have experience now of processing piglets and I think I could really excel in a large operation. If I can’t work in a sow facility I would like to work with farmers that contract finishing and nursery barns through large swine producers. I would really like to communicate with farmers and help them help the company by producing quality pork. While working at a swine facility, I would like to have a small cow/ calf herd with a small farm to go home to at the end of the day. After working in the swine industry for many years I want to retire and start breeding and raising show pigs for local kids in 4-H programs.  I showed pigs at the local fair for 12 years and would like to really give back to the 4-H organization.  Show pig prices are so expensive anymore and that takes away from the children’s experiences so I would like to make it so pigs are cheaper and the kids can learn more about swine farming with 4-H.
