I am so humbled to be receiving this scholarship. Thank you to all the Targeting Excellence sponsors, donors as well as the committee and board members. Your passion for agriculture is very inspiring. Thank you for your generosity in supporting my path to a future in agriculture and animal health.
After graduating from UW-Platteville with my bachelor’s degree in animal science and biology this spring, I will go on to graduate studies. I will be enrolled in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences (CBMS) Ph.D. program in the School of Veterinary Medicine at UW-Madison. I hope to study animal function and disease to better understand zoonotic diseases and food safety. I want to become a veterinary pathologist once finishing a PhD and DVM. I want to work in a state diagnostic lab to assess risks to animal and human populations. I hope to also use my knowledge as a pathologist to assess food safety. Additionally, I may study diseases in animal models to better understand advances in human health. My main research interests are diseases in bovine and to work towards better understanding stress physiology and pathogenesis.
After contributing to industry, I hope to become a professor to continue advancing the animal science industry and to teach future animal scientists. My career goals are to advance my education to the best of my ability and to contribute to the scientific consensus. I want to be a life-long learner and dedicate my life to improving the lives of animals and people for future generations. I want to do something important with my life. I want to change agriculture and the world for the better. Ultimately, improving the quality of life for animal and mankind.
