Career Goals:

Upon completion of my master’s degree under the direction of Dr. Flowers, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in applied nutrition in pigs. After I receive my doctorate, I would like to work in academia with a research and teaching appointment. I am very passionate about how nutrition affects reproduction in pigs, especially in primiparous females. With an ever increasing world population to feed and a decreasing amount of land to it on, we as agriculturists have to find a way to increase efficiency. I believe that reproduction is a good place to start and I hope that my research can play a part in that huge task. I also have a heart for teaching and I believe that working for a university would allow me to excel in both my interests. In addition, I plan to operate my own show pig business. I grew up showing livestock and I believe it played a vital role in making me who I am today. I would like to develop a program which allows children who may not have the financial resources for such opportunity a chance to experience exhibiting livestock as well.
