Blair Tostenson

Hometown: Milan, MN

School: University of Minnesota

Major / Species: Animal Science

Career Goals: Upon completion of my master’s degree, my immediate goal is to find a job working for a livestock production or feed company as a nutrition and management consultant. Ideally I would be able to be with a swine specialized company as that is my background and passion. I greatly enjoy doing nutrition research since it directly impacts production and profitability. Within the company, I plan to grow the research department and have it directed towards testing certain feedstuffs with different genetic lines to determine which is the best combination for certain producers programs.

To show my passion for scientific based and academically approved results, I would like to develop and improve products to see which yields the best results under traditional production. By this time in my career through hard work and dedication, I will be one of the leaders of the swine group where I can direct action and drive the focus of the group.
At this point, I plan on spreading the information we have obtained from the research farm and begin educating producers and industry professionals. Through extension and increasing my network, my reputation and notoriety will hopefully increase. I would like and plan to be recognized as an expert consultant in the swine nutrition and management field.

With the knowledge I have accrued over the many years in industry, I would like to continue to travel to around the nation and globe to expand swine production in areas showing interest. In addition, I would work with farmers and production companies to become more socially conscious to stay more in tune with current consumers. My career will encompass what I learned in academia along with the years of experience in the field to improve swine production and its image.
