Career Goals:

I am planning on going into the Dairy or Poultry Production Industries. I have been looking into agronomy and nutrition of dairy cattle for the past few years. Dairy cattle originally sparked my interest in animal agriculture when I was younger, and my passion for the industry has just continued to grow as I’ve gotten older and more serious about the future. There were a few instances where I have done some job shadowing with dairy nutritionists in my local area and got a small idea of what that job would be like. I am not as interested in selling the feed itself, like as a salesman, so I started to look more into agronomy and crop production. My goal to understand this career more is to earn an internship where I will either work hand in hand with nutritionists, or work with agronomists and crop consultants. I am hoping to complete internships in the future with either a nutrition or feed company or with a company completing agronomy work.
Recently, poultry has started to increase my interest and I have been talking to industry professionals. I am more interested in egg producing facilities, whether they be for vaccines, consumption, or other uses. I have already set some plans to achieve internships in the poultry industry with the help of Penn State’s Poultry Science Club. I would like to work for a poultry company in the near future with whom I can have a positive lasting impression on and could potentially return to for a permanent position after my college education is complete.
My goal for the future is to secure a career where I can contribute to the food animal industry and continue my passion for dairy and poultry. I am hoping to get a clearer idea of what I truly love to do through internship opportunities and speaking with more career professionals. Through internships and externships, I am hoping to narrow down a more suitable profession that incorporates my passion in animal agriculture and having a secure future. All in all, working as a dairy nutritionist, agronomist, or with egg production are all bright avenues I can see in my future.
