I am extremely thankful for the people who have funded this scholarship. As a young person that is trying to earn a bright future in the world of agriculture this will help turn my goals into accomplishments. I also want to thank the Targeting Excellence Board and Committees for all of the hard work that they do for us. Without them this opportunity would not be here to help push new leaders in agriculture across the finish line and into making a contribution to the agricultural community.
My career goals have done a 180-degree turn since I graduated from Ohio State in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences. I have worked on 15 different sow farms located in Ohio to Iowa going from a swine specialist to a manager with AMVC Management Services. After managing a genetic multiplier in Illinois I made the decision to move back to Ohio and work for Heimerl Family Farms as a Gilt Selection Officer. I have now decided to go back to school full time to earn my Masters of Science and conduct research in mass depopulation of various food animal species. This master’s program is very open ended and I can take classes from all over the university and really tailor it to my goals. My career goals are to become a leader within the Swine Industry. Now that is not a specific job title but I am looking for jobs that make an impact on lives of pork producers and also young 4-H kids trying to figure out what they want to study in college. This leads me to wanting a job in the Ohio State extension office as the Program Specialist for Swine. I would love to become a PQA advisor and work them pork producers to take the best care of the animals as possible. I also would like to train producers and college students in ventilation and other various practices like composting as well. This also will help me to continue to advocate for the industry I have so much passion for. This may lead me to my next dream career of either getting my PhD and teaching the next generation of pork producers or becoming the Executive Vice President at Ohio Pork Council. My future is looking very exciting and I am ready for my first day back to school. I am hoping that with everyday in my new degree helps me to shape my career goals more and more. I am so excited to continue my work with the swine industry no matter which direction that I may go in after school.
