I am extremely grateful to be awarded this scholarship. As a dual masters student I am excited to give back to the swine industry and this scholarship will allow me to reach that dream. Thank you for sponsoring us young leaders that want to pursue a career in animal agriculture. Thank you to the board for being a part of this great program for students. Thank you to the committee that put the time into reading each application and the rest of the hard work that goes into making this decision. Finally a last thank you to every person that has donated to this scholarship and I hope that I can pay it forward one day within my career in the swine industry.

Career Goals:

My career goals include graduating with my dual master’s in animal sciences and business administration and transfer the skills I will have gained over those two years to the swine industry. I have spent all five of the years between receiving my bachelor’s degree to starting my dual masters working in the commercial barns of the swine industry. These experiences allowed me to have a full understanding of what it really takes to get a gilt ready to go to the sow farm, get her through her hopefully multiple parities and then follow her piglets through their stages of growth and return them to the sow farm to be a prosperous animal. I am focused on giving back to the pork industry by putting my passion to work. In my studies in Animal Sciences my research will be to create a train the trainer program for stakeholders in swine, beef, and dairy. This program will focus on what each trainer will need to do if a foreign animal disease enters the United States and be able to train other producers. With the combination of animal husbandry knowledge, the knowledge I will gain from doing my research and the business knowledge I hope to enrich the swine industry. I will do this by getting a career in one of three things: pork procurement, state pork council or a production team member for an animal health company. I am focused on giving back to the pork industry by putting my passion to work and helping to encourage the next generation to seek a career in the swine industry. I hope that through my next career out of school I can develop more soft skills and a better understanding of the politics that are with the swine industry to help me with my next career goal of becoming the vice president of Ohio Pork. That is my ultimate goal. To give back to all the pork producers in Ohio and continue to have our state be one of the top pork producing states.
