I would like to thank you very much for this honor of receiving a Targeting Excellence scholarship. I was able to work the event this last fall as a volunteer and had such a lovely time working with and getting to know all of the faces behind the Targeting Excellence organization and sponsorship. I truly appreciate the opportunity this scholarship provides me and the other recipients.
As far back as I can remember my passion, drive, and professional development all lead back to one thing ⸺ agriculture. Wanting to have a career in agriculture has been a constant in my life for many years. Of course, I must thank my father for being a farmer, but most of the large growing moments in my life have the whole community of agriculture to thank. No matter the person behind these large growing moments, I have always had someone there to encourage and assist me in creating larger than life goals that are still relevant and achievable. Expressing my goals for my future career comes easy and difficult at the same time. I know that I want to be in agriculture, more specifically animal agriculture, but I am still looking for that one career path that I aspire to have. This challenging thought has been around just as long as my love for agriculture. To combat this lack of commitment to one career I created a goal for myself that had the ability to be maintained and worked at for many years. This goal is to simply be the most employable person that I can be by the end of my education. In many ways I have embodied this goal in my daily lifestyle for the past three years and I am dedicated to continue for as long as I need to. In the present, I work towards being as active on campus as my academic load allows. I continue to expand my professional knowledge through various career and professional events. I work hard to find employment opportunities that push me to learn and be a better employee in various settings, covering any style of work environment I could possible enter someday. I view my life as a world of endless opportunity. Each day, I have one hundred different paths that I could take, some being new ones that came from a choice I made the day before while some are old ones that I have been following for years. But at the end of it all, I always want each of those paths to be an opportunity that I have the ability to take, allowing me to live my life one step at a time. Pursuing a career in agriculture has been an easy choice for most of my life. The passion and drive I have expressed in my career goal and daily lifestyle is all due to the amazing community of agriculture that has helped me along the way. There is so much potential for not only myself, but for agriculture as a whole. The many hard-working men and women of this community take pride in the work they do. I strive to be one of those dedicated, hard-working leaders for the rest of my life.
