Thank you to all of the sponsors, board, and committees of the Targeting Excellence Scholarship. Your support of my education is invaluable. It has always been a dream of mine to become a college graduate, and with your support you are helping turn my dream into a reality. Again, thank you for all of your support.
My career goal is to help farmers maximize their control of their farm inputs and get the most out of their feed through being a nutrition consultant for Wisconsin dairy farmers. I wish to use my skills in communication along with a growing knowledge in dairy herd management and nutrition to help educate farmers how to utilize the feeds they already have and where to improve harvests in the future by adjusting with their needs. I hope to work with a group of producers that I connect with at a regular basis to make sure they are raising and maintaining a profitable herd. UW-Madison is my dream undergraduate school, but I realize my career goal will require additional schooling. Challenges that I would like to address will be controlling metabolic issues around calving such as ketosis through new supplement use and alternative feed products in a Midwest cropping system, such as sorghum or utilizing pasture-based heifer rearing systems. I will be able to use skills in DairyComp and other audit procedures to recognize areas of improvement within a dairy operation and relate it back to management practices as I serve as a resource for farmers. After graduation in May of 2022, I plan to attend graduate school to obtain my PhD. in ruminant nutrition to be the best resource that I can be for producers.
