I would like to express my extreme gratitude for those that make the Targeting Excellence scholarships possible! Debt is a huge concern amongst those that choose to pursue vet school and scholarships like this greatly help reduce that burden. Everyday I am grateful for those that play a valuable part in letting me follow my passion in becoming a food animal veterinarian. Food animal medicine is an industry that is desperate for veterinarians in order to efficiently serve rural communities and I am excited that Targeting Excellence provides this wonderful opportunity to encourage more students into the industry.
Currently, I am not exactly sure what I would like to do upon graduation, but I am certain that I will be practicing food animal medicine. For my 4th year clinical rotations, I am planning an individualized tract so that I may be able to seek further experience with beef cattle practices. Right now, my plan is to practice mixed animal medicine in an area where there is a shortage of large animal veterinarians for a few years. This will allow me to be a well-rounded practicing veterinarian that will leave me with small animal experience to fall back on if I ever need to due to injury. After several years, I would like to focus solely on food animal medicine and work towards specializing in bovine reproduction. I have always enjoyed and am passionate about the artificial insemination and embryo transfer work that I have participated in this far, and would really like to try to incorporate this into my future career. My ultimate goal is to be able to give back to the food animal industry, which has been very dear to me and instrumental in my upbringing.
