I am beyond thankful to be named a Targeting Excellence Scholarship recipient for this year! For several years, I have been fortunate to attend the Targeting Excellence event in Ohio, and I am continually amazed by the people from the ag industry that show up to support students. Your support has allowed me to reach for the moon and pursue my passion for beef and food animal veterinary medicine. This year, I will be beginning my 4th year clinical rotations in veterinary school and will be traveling from Ohio out to Idaho with several stops in-between ! In the future, I am excited to be able to help producers and consumers make the right choices to keep our food supply safe and healthy. Thank you again for your time and support, this opportunity truly means a lot to me!
Currently, I am not exactly sure what I would like to do upon graduation, but I am certain that I will be practicing food animal medicine. For my 4th year clinical rotations, I pursuing an individualized tract so that I may be able to seek further experience with beef cattle practices. Right now, my plan is to practice mixed animal medicine in an area where there is a shortage of large animal veterinarians for a few years. This will allow me to be a well-rounded practicing veterinarian that will leave me with small animal experience to fall back on if I ever need to due to injury. After several years, I would like to focus solely on food animal medicine and work towards specializing in bovine reproduction. I have always enjoyed and am passionate about the artificial insemination and embryo transfer work that I have participated in this far, and would really like to try to incorporate this into my future career. My ultimate goal is to be able to give back to the food animal industry, which has been very dear to me and instrumental in my upbringing.
