I began my education at Des Moines Area Community College as a Mark Pearson Scholar studying Agriculture Business with a focus on Animal Science. I look forward to transferring to Kansas State University in the Fall of 2021 where I will double major in Agriculture Communications and Animal Science. I choose Kansas State University for their innovative approach to pairing Agriculture Communications and Animal Science together, continually working to improve the program while teaching their students the best way we can advocate for animal agriculture. I grew up very involved within animal agriculture, specifically within the beef industry, and found a passion for swine as I become older. My father allowed me to control our website design and social media content within our family?s cattle company, this ignited my love for advocating for animal agriculture while also bringing forth the disconnect between producers and consumers. While interning with the World Food Prize Foundation I was taught different skills and techniques for sharing information amongst a global organization. When working with Legacy Livestock Imaging I had the opportunity to capture timeless moments and learned how to properly share those with the world, ensuring transparency and teaching about what takes place within our industry. I look forward to interning with the Iowa Turkey Federation this spring/summer. Learning the business and communications side of one of Iowa’s agriculture commodities and expanding my knowledge of the Iowa turkey industry. These opportunities have helped me learn that I love the connection agriculture brings forth. My career goals include sharing the story of agriculture, bringing people together for an industry we are all passionate about, and making a difference within our industry. My ideal profession would be within the beef or swine industry serving as their Communication/Marketing Director where I can exert a positive influence within the company and industry.
