I would like to thank everyone who has made this scholarship possible. With wonderful supporters, like you, I will be able to walk away from college with very little debt. It has given me so many opportunities to travel and really take advantage of my college education, other than what I got from the classroom. Thank you again for your wonderful support!

Hometown: Reynoldsville, PA

School: Pennsylvania State University

Major / Species: Animal Science

Career Goals: I come from a small dairy farm in western Pennsylvania. Agriculture has been a huge part of my life and I have a strong background in agriculture. Hence, the reason I decided to come to Penn State majoring in Animal Science. During my time I have taken all of the dairy science classes. I plan on returning to my family’s dairy farm and help manage it. I would also consider an outside job, in the dairy industry. I would be willing to try just about anything, especially coming right out of school. However, I would like to focus on nutrition or reproduction. I would like to make some improvements to my family’s dairy farm by building a new barn and some other items that need fixed up on the farm. If I would not stay on my family’s dairy farm I would look at becoming a consultant in reproduction, nutrition, or with parlor management. I would also be interested in being a herd manager somewhere. I love the dairy industry and all it has to offer so I want to make a career in it. I believe that agriculture is important for everyone. Without the farm people do not have any food to consume and would not be able to survive. Today the modern person is generations removed from the farm, causing the current gap that we are now seeing with producers and the consumers. Consumers do not know what the daily operations are on a farm and how much work it involves. They do not realize how closely farmers watch and take care of their livestock to make sure they have the best life possible. I think that education is important for these consumers in order to eliminate the current gap that exists. Educational materials is something I want to incorporate into my farm someday, as I feel it is important for all industries involved with ag.
